Car Theft Thwarted By Crash
An attempt to steal a car from a Lawrenceburg home went awry Sunday night when the instigator apparently crashed while attempting to flee the scene.
Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to the scene of the crash on Fifth Street. The owner of one of the cars told officers that she had been in bed when a neighbor called to inform her that her car had been involved in a crash just outside her house.
The owner told officers that she had gone to bed around 11:00 p.m. At that time, she said her 2001 Ford Focus was parked in her driveway facing north, with the doors locked. When her neighbor called around an hour later, she found her car in her front yard facing south, with damage to the front end.
Officers said it appeared that the perpetrator had backed out of the driveway, started forward, then crashed into a parked vehicle before backing over a curb into the owner’s front yard. Pry marks were found around the driver’s door.
Officers noted that the ignition had not been tampered with, and the owner reported that she was in possession of the only key. Officers report that approximately $1,500 worth of damage was sustained.
